Talk about luck! Last August, I was invited to join a threesome of guys who had booked a striped bass fishing charter on Cape Cod, MA. Their fourth buddy couldn’t make it and I was asked to take his place. Having had very little luck on my own during the 2011 season, I decided it would be worth my while to get on someone else’s boat and get some coaching. It was one of the best decisions I ever made!
Our party gathered, under a cloudy sky and rising sun, at Bass River, South Yarmouth. As we were unpacking the car, a large pickup, towing a 26 SeaCraft Master Angler center console offshore fishing machine, powered with twin Mercury Verado 225s, roared by us and dropped the boat into the water. We were then quickly greeted by Captain Bobby Rice, a Cape Cod native and longtime Truro resident. The Captain quickly went over the ground rules and we boarded his boat.
Unfortunately, we had just reached his ‘honey hole’ and the skies opened up. The group decided to stick it out and fish through the thunder squall. Fortunately for us, as the rains diminished, the bite was on. Within a matter of an hour, our group landed 12+ stripers, all of which could have been a ‘keepah’. Bobby put us on fish and kept us on fish all morning long. We must have caught and released 2 dozen fish. We did take some home for the grill! Captain Rice’s fish-tuitiveness is simply amazing. He could predict the movement of the schools that we were tracking. He coached everyone on board as to what levels of the water column we would find the fish. He assisted when he was asked for help or advice, but never once, ‘over coached’. Instead, he let a group of 40 and 50-somethings do what we do best; have fun.
Not only has it been said that Bobby was born with a fishing rod in hand, but he has now been commercially fishing for almost 20 years and chartering for 13. Reel Deal Fishing Charters is one of the first charter businesses in Truro and continues to be described as the best. I will concur! Conveniently located between Wellfleet and Provincetown, they also offering trips out of the Orleans area. Striped bass, black sea bass and bluefin tuna fishing are among his specialties while he also fishes for bluefish, scup, cod, haddock, pollock and sharks.
In 2013, Reel Deal Fishing Charters added a third boat. A 26 SeaCraft Master Angler center console offshore fishing machine, powered with twin Mercury Verado 250s. All of his vessels are equipped with top of the line high-definition Garmin electronics, including the 12″ touch screen GPS chart plotter, radar, and depth sounder, while other features include CD player, cellular phone, satellite phone, VHF marine radio, EPIRB, as well as live bait wells, outriggers, and night vision lighting. Each boat is fully equipped with all required Coast Guard safety equipment. Captain Bobby has an extensive assortment of rods, reels, and tackle equipment, he even makes his own jigs to get just the right size, shape, and color.
If you have the opportunity to visit Cape Cod, remember, excellent fishing is only moments away. When you fish aboard the Reel Deal with Captain Bobby Rice you receive the true fishing experience as you land stripers, blues and tuna that are bound to take you for an unforgettable ride. They can customize your trip whether you are looking for a fun family trip with the kids or a hearty day on the water where you control the gear, just let them know! Reel Deal Fishing Charters is a must for your Cape Cod vacation. Fish now, work later!
